Tom Van Malderen
Tom Van Malderen‘s work ranges from buildings to objects, installations, exhibition design, and sculptures of furniture. His personal practice probes the intersections of art, design and architecture by looking at material gestures, the construction of space, the process of making, the familiar and the peculiar, display features, nodes, edges and gaps.
Tom Van Malderen lives and works in Malta. After obtaining a Master in Architecture at Sint-Lucas Brussels, he worked with Atelier Lucien Kroll in Brussels and Architecture Project in London and Valletta.
He designed exhibitions for BOZAR in Brussels, the Malta Pavilion at the Venice Biennale Arte 2017, the Venice Architecture Biennale and the artist Bettina Hutschek. His sculptural work was presented among others at the Valletta International Visual Arts Festival 2015; as a commission for Pjazza Teatru Rjal Valletta 2015, and collective shows. In Malta, his work is represented by Malta Contemporary Art.
Tom forms part of the contemporary art platform FRAGMENTA Malta and the KINEMASTIK international short film festival, and writes for international architecture magazines.
